Pastor Gerry Burney
Earlier in life, I, like many, believed in some kind of existence beyond this life, and I figured that God would work it all out somehow (heaven and hell, and all that). I figured that I was a fairly decent person– no better or worse than most. So why should I worry? After all, God loves us all, right? Then, one day, I began to wonder if there wasn’t more to life than scoring some money and spending it on stuff until we die. So, I went to church and found out that God wasn’t going to work it all out, because God already HAD worked it all out. Two thousand years ago, God worked it all out… now it is up to each of us. Unfortunately, for those who ignore Jesus, they have a destiny with hell. Yet, many still say that somehow, God will work it all out, not knowing that He already has. The ball is in our court.
Then, as a result of leading youth groups, and getting the same questions as I had while learning science in school, I got more deeply into the study of creation and evolution.
Further, as a result of a conversation I had with a perplexed young man (whose father was a pastor), regarding how a loving God could impute (declare) us as sinners, based upon someone else’s (Adam’s) sin, I began to truly study the doctrines. (Note: The end result being two in-depth studies I’ve written on Predestination and Original Sin, as well as several books).
The following is taken from the editors remarks from Pastor Gerry’s books…
Pastor Gerry Burney graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, and pursued graduate study at the University of California, Berkeley. he authored his first book on economics and poverty. Pastor Burney is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and served in Vietnam. He retired from managing microwave communication technologies for over thirty years. He has pastored in baptist Churches, has been a high school teacher, has taught seminars on biblical studies, and currently ministers through the Mendo-Lake Baptist Association in California. He leads seminars on various issues, and is the chaplain for the Mendocino County Jail and Juvenile Hall.
I love people and my desire is to see them encounter the Living God and enjoy the abundant life He promises to those who trust in Him. I believe that growing deeply in a relationship with God, through living His Word (the Bible), loving His Son (Jesus), and being led by our Helper (the Holy Spirit), is the only way to fulfill our purpose and know true joy and peace in this life.
Over the years, I have been privileged to serve God in various capacities, most recently as support staff to Gerry, in the jail ministry. I have continued to be blown away by God’s transforming love and amazing grace.
I love the beautiful life I’ve been given. It includes a precious family of three children and three (so far!) grandchildren. It also includes expressing myself through writing and caring for others through my passion of baking for them.
I love my incredibly humble, handsome, brilliant, and patient husband, who loves me the way God instructs husbands to love their wives in Ephesians 5:25.
And, most of all, I love my Lord Jesus Christ who loved me enough to die, so that I might live fully and purposefully in this life and live in His radiant presence in eternity.
